19 Light Brigade
A ceremony was held at Headquarters Task Force Helmand (TFH) in October 2009 to mark the Transfer of Authority in Helmand province between 19 Light Brigade and 11 Light Brigade. 19 Light Brigade lowered its flag at the TFH headquarters marking the end of a successful six-month tour.
The Brigade is primarily based in Northern Ireland and consists of the following Major Units; The Light Dragoons, 40 Regiment Royal Artillery, 38 Engineer Regiment, The Black Watch 3rd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland, 1st Battalion The Welsh Guards, The 2nd Battalion The Mercian Regiment, The 2nd Battalion The Rifles and 19 Combat Service Support Battalion.
During recent operations the Brigade Headquarters was based in the Provincial Capital Lashkar Gar for the duration of Op HERRICK 10 with units based throughout Helmand. We conducted operations to
- Assist the people of Afghanistan with creating a secure environment.
- Assisting with the continued development of Afghan National Security Forces.
- Assisting with reconstruction.
- Assisting the legitimate Provincial and District Government in Helmand.
In addition to that outlined above, we also participated in Operations to support the second National and Presidential elections.
In the conduct of these Operations we supported Her Majesty's Governments Objectives and Aims for Helmand and worked with many other Governmental Departments and NATO partners, notably the Danish, Estonians and Americans in Helmand Province.
In Afghanistan there is a coalition, led by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), of 50,700 troops from 41 different nations that we will join and play our part in.
