Clearing phase

Pause before Op MOSHTARAK starts. Forces gear up en-masse, ready for an early morning boarding as the helicopters warm their engines.

The key military 'clearing' phase of Operation MOSHTARAK began in central Helmand province in the early hours of 13 February 2010.

Combined helicopter and ground insertions of troops secured key objectives in western Babaji, Nad e-Ali and Marjeh areas.

The assault was supported by a comprehensive air operation and was the result of considerable planning between the Afghan Government and ISAF with Afghan units partnering ISAF units throughout.
